Who is that looking at you -- luring you to try it, pick it up or even steal a glimpse? Whether in color or black & white, photos & portraits tell unique stories even in their supporting roles of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle editorial and advertising. You can argue it's a partnership of words and images, but I'm a little biased. I believe the picture tells the whole story. Allow New York City Photographer Donn Thompson to help you tell your narrative.
My name is Donn Thompson of Dracinc photography, and I'm a Photographer in Harlem, New York City.
My studio is located in Harlem, a neighborhood in Upper Manhattan, New York City. It is bounded roughly by Frederick Douglass Boulevard, St. Nicholas Avenue, and Morningside Park on the west; the Harlem River and 155th Street on the north; Fifth Avenue on the east; and Central Park North on the south. The greater Harlem area encompasses several other neighborhoods. It extends west to the Hudson River, north to 155th Street, east to the East River, and south to Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard, Central Park, and East 96th Street.
Jewish and Italian Americans predominantly occupied Harlem in the 19th century, but African-American residents began to arrive in large numbers during the Great Migration in the 20th century. In the 1920s and 1930s, Central and West Harlem were the Harlem Renaissance centers, a major African-American cultural movement. With job losses during the Great Depression of the 1930s and New York City's deindustrialization after World War II, crime rates and poverty increased significantly. In the 21st century, crime rates decreased significantly, and Harlem started.
