I was asked what I wanted my photographs to say to the public. What is my inspiration?
I consider many factors in my work as a NYC commercial photographer. My priority is always the subject or project at hand. When working with people, I gauge how open they are to expressing themselves—I want authenticity, so I push for it. The space must be right, allowing creativity and freedom in every photo. This intentional method fuels my creativity and ensures each shoot stands out from my previous work. For every project, I strive to capture real moments of connection that the public can recognise.
I work in New York City, and I know how to navigate its constant movement—tight schedules, busy sidewalks, and a blend of people from all over. My passion is capturing you: my public, your wedding, an ad campaign. I am always excited to deliver the final images, just as I was the first time I picked up a camera.

Donn Thompson's Passion for Photography
A new art and photography teacher from Canada brought many of his own cameras to my high school in The Bahamas and taught us how to use them. That same year, I convinced my mother to buy me my first camera—an Olympus Trip 35—at age thirteen. The following year, she got a small black-and-white enlarger, and her master bathroom became my darkroom. Developing photos intrigued me and drew me deeper into photography.

My two older sisters were passionate about fashion and made their own clothing. Photographing them in their creations gave me an early appreciation for style and sparked my creativity as a fashion photographer. They inspired me so much!

Learning about different photographic styles and photographers inspired me to continuously improve my craft. I aspired to master the process and eventually create iconic images.

I feel fortunate and privileged to travel to exotic places, said Donn Thompson, New York Photographer. I once could only dream of doing what I love best. I am passionate about all kinds of photography. I have met and worked with many people and learned quite a bit.
My grandmother, Mae Thomas, always told me the truth and let me participate in all the foolishness that came to mind, and there was a lot.

Abe Seltzer, owner of Seltzer Studio and my mentor, was key to my learning experience. For nine years, I picked his brains. He taught me about teamwork and how to bring out the best in people in front of my camera. He also taught me how to better see and capture lighting.
